Where Island Charm Meets Manila’s Creative Soul

Inspired by the sun-soaked shores of Boracay and the vibrant streets of Manila, this book nook brings together two places that capture the heart of the Philippines. Stroll through D’Mall Boracay, where colorful cafés, local shops, and the relaxed island atmosphere welcome travelers from around the world. As the journey continues, the scene transforms into the creative energy of Poblacion, Manila—a neighborhood known for its murals, independent cafés, live music, and artistic spirit. Rather than recreating a single street, this miniature celebrates the contrast between tropical tranquility and urban creativity. It is a tribute to the warmth, hospitality, and colorful culture that make the Philippines a destination people remember long after the journey ends.

Book Nook Can Be More Than One Thing

A Thoughtful, One-of-a-Kind Gift

A Book Nook makes a meaningful gift for someone you care about. You can personalize it with small decorations, handwritten notes, photos, or symbols that matter to you — turning a beautiful model into a truly personal keepsake.

A Relaxing, Hands-On Experience

Build at your own pace and enjoy the quiet satisfaction of assembling each piece. With hundreds of details, a Book Nook can easily fill an evening or a weekend, helping you unwind, focus, and enjoy the process as much as the final result.

A Beautiful Piece to Show Off

Whether it’s your first Book Nook or one of many, it looks great on a desk, bookshelf, or TV cabinet. Fair warning though — once you start, you’ll probably want a dedicated shelf just for them. They really are that good.

Manila D'Mall Boracay

I have been a fan of this relatively new company, Viendor, also known as Book Nook Global. They have an interesting design structure that uses thin birchwood with UV color printing to achieve good detailing in their model kits. This latest release from them is no exception. This downtown look at the bustling Manila street scene is fascinating with the glowing street signs and lit interiors.

One thing that caught my attention was the central jeepney, a colorful and gaudy rendition of the real versions. Since this version was only illuminated from the inside, I thought, why not add more lights? The first thing that came to mind while looking at it was the headlights and turn signals. Adding tiny LEDs to light them from behind turned out to be easier than I thought. There were openings at the back of the headlight frame which made it easy to insert a tiny LED behind the acrylic headlight lens. For the turn signals, I drilled a small hole through the circular shape, I installed an even smaller orange LED behind that, and that would shine through the hole to the front. I then hooked up the turn signal lights to a synched blinking circuit to emulate emergency flashing lights as though it was stopped in the street. One other thing I decided to add was colorful changing LEDs underneath the jeepney to emulate the gaudiness of the real thing. All in all, I added six lights to the jeepney. One other thing I decided to add was a light inside the Manila sign above the front gate to bring the aesthetics to completion. One important thing I had to consider and remedy was the power requirements... The kit is powered by a USB 5v power supply, and my modifications required a 3v supply. To remedy this, I installed a 5v to 3v regulated buck converter to supply the seven lights that I installed. To finish this off, I installed a touch switch that replaced the mechanical one that is supplied with the kit. I moved that switch to the back panel for the master on-off function. Now I can turn the lights on and off with just a touch. I really liked this build as it was easy to put together and the parts fit well.
